PRAYER

Picture
Much of the prayer of the Church of England is corporate, that is to say we do
it together. Yet there is another side to our prayer life, our own individual prayers, as we
try to share in Christ's prayer to his Father, that his will be done, his kingdom come.

Prayer can seem daunting, but whether you are a child, young person or an adult, prayer is easier than you might imagine! Millions of people of every age pray every day.

You don't have to know any prayers if you want to pray - in fact, words  can often get in the way. Picture Jesus, and then say what is in your heart, what you feel.

Remember!
God hears every prayer - but not all prayers are answered in the way we might expect or desire: we don't always pray for his will to be done!
Further help in learning to pray, and some topical prayers you may care to use can be found on the Church of England website

Also you may find helpful the the Church of England website JustPray.uk which creates a place for prayer, with advice on what prayer is and how to pray.

A FEW SHORT PRAYERS.
Lord God, Creator of light, at the rising of your sun each morning, let the greatest of all lights - your love - rise, like the sun, within my heart.

Prayer of St Columba ... Be, Lord Jesus, a bright flame before me, a guiding star above me, a smooth path below me, a kindly shepherd behind me: today, tonight, and forever.

O Lord, you know how busy I must be this day. If I forget you, do not forget me.

Prayer of a Breton fisherman...  Lord, the sea is so wide and my boat is so small. Be with me.

O God, may the fire of the Holy Spirit burn up the dross in our hearts, warm them with love, and set them on fire with zeal for your service. Amen.
